For football fans in Saudi Arabia who had been impatiently awaiting Cristiano Ronaldo to be unveiled, their wait was finally over.
The 37-year-old recently signed a two-year contract with Al-Nassr, and around 25,000 fans and media members welcomed him at the stadium. In addition to stating his desire for the new contract, Ronaldo also said how thrilled he was to be joining the team.
He claimed that despite receiving offers from clubs in Europe and the MLS, he ultimately chose to transfer to Saudi Arabia since he had made a commitment to the team.
I can say now that many opportunities in Europe, many clubs in Brazil, in Australia, US and even in Portugal many clubs tried to sign me. I gave my word to this club; only to Al Nassr. My work in Europe is done. I played at the best clubs in the world… and I won everything. I’m happy, proud to join Al Nassr. People don’t know about the level here. This contract is unique because I am a unique player. It’s normal for me. It’s simple. I’m coming here to win, to enjoy. What I want to is to enjoy and to smile.
Ronaldo and Al-Nassr supporters will be hoping he can keep setting records while playing in Saudi Arabia.
