American actor, Johnny Depp, wins defamation case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
Following six weeks of trial, the jury unanimously ruled that Depp was defamed by Heard and said she “acted with actual malice.”
Judge Penney Azcarate ruled that Depp is awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages.
On the other hand, the jury awarded Heard with $2 million in compensatory damages for her counterclaim. The jury found Depp liable for saying Heards claim was “hoax.”
During the statement, Amber Heard and her legal team were present, but Depp was missing.
Sources claim Depp was watching from the UK due to work schedules.
Following the verdict, Heard walked out of the courthouse with her sister, Whitney, without addressing reporters.
Johnny Depp Vs. Amber Heard
In March 2019, Johnny Depp filed a $50 million defamation suit against Amber Heard, in response to an article Heard wrote for the Washington Post in December 2018 about being the victim of domestic violence.
However, the article did not mention Depp by name.
Depp in the legal suit noted that Heard’s allegations against him were an “elaborate hoax.” He disclosed that the article caused damage to his career.
Johnny said he was dropped from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise four days after the op-ed was published.
Heard also countersued Depp for $100 million, saying the actor’s “hoax” claim harmed her career and reputation.
