The winner of the 2023 Best Coach Award has been revealed by UEFA, the organization that oversees football in Europe.
Following a stellar season as manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola was chosen the winner of the award. Few managers in the world have managed teams to a treble, but the Spaniard did it with the Cityzens last season.
On Thursday, August 31, 2023, in Monaco, during the group stage draw event for the 2023–24 UEFA Champions League, Guardiola was declared the prize winner. In order to earn the prize, Guardiola bested Simeone Inzaghi of Inter Milan and former Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti.
The Champions League would begin in September 2023, and Manchester City supporters will be hoping they can repeat their performance from last season and defend their championship. City has been placed in a group with Young Boys, Crvena, and Leipzig that is not difficult.
The jury for Guardiola’s selection included the 32 head coaches of the teams that competed in the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League group stages, as well as 55 journalists picked by the European Sports Media and one representative from each of UEFA’s member associations.
