The tennis community has received a clue from Serena Williams that her tennis career is about to end. The American claimed during her interview with Vogue that she is going toward other significant endeavors but stressed that she dislikes the word retirement.
I’m gonna relish these next few weeks. Unfortunately, I wasn’t ready to win Wimbledon this year. And I don’t know if I will be ready to win New York. But I’m going to try. I know there’s a fan fantasy that I might have tied Margaret that day in London, then maybe beat her record in New York, and then at the trophy ceremony say, “See ya. I get that. It’s a good fantasy. But I’m not looking for some ceremonial, final on-court moment. I’m terrible at goodbyes, the world’s worst. But please know that I am more grateful for you than I can ever express in words.
After being suspended from the sport for a year, Williams forced her to return to the court at Wimbledon 2022. Williams won her first singles match in 430 days by defeating Nuria Parrizas-Diaz 6-3, 6-4 at the women’s National Bank Open in Canada. She has previously declared her intention to compete at the US Open, which will take place from August 29 to September 5 of 2022.
