Eight Chiana Senior High School pupils from the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region have been dismissed by the Ghana Education Service (GES) for insulting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Her behavior was “considered very undesirable and contrary to the appropriate norms of conduct typically required of any student in our Educational system in Ghana,” the GES wrote in a letter to the parents of one of the children.

In order to bring about the required change in behavior and outlook on life, the GES advised the students to use their dismissal as “a key turning point in her life.”

In a statement issued on Monday, November 14, the GES announced that “management of the GES wishes to convey our heartfelt apology to the President and the wider public on behalf of the students and the school.”

The behavior was called “unfortunate” by the GES, who also stated that it goes against “every educational and moral ideal of our society.”
