Serena Williams, the former No. 1 women’s tennis player in the world, has bowed from the US Open.
After three hours, the Australian Ajla Tomljanovic defeated the American in one of the most exciting matches ever, 7-5,6-7,6-1. Around the world, Serena was the favorite, which kept the majority of tennis fans riveted to the court or on their screens.
After the US Open, the 40-year-old had initially said that she will retire from tennis. However, when questioned on the court following her loss against Tomljanovic, she remained mum.
Serena Willians thanked her family for supporting her throughout her career, both on and off the court. She specifically thanked her sister Venus Williams for all the motivation she provided for her to blossom into the tennis player she ultimately became.
