With his very popular album, ‘Rave and Roses,’ Nigerian afrobeats sensation Rema has broken a 41-year-old record on the US Billboard Albums chart. The debut album has lingered on the chart for an amazing 31 weeks, breaking the previous record set by afro-juju icon King Sunny Ade’s 1982 album ‘Juju Music,’ which was on the chart for 29 weeks.
Rema’s extraordinary achievement comes after a long period in which no other Nigerian artist has achieved a similar feat since King Sunny Ade’s record. Wizkid’s ‘Sounds From the Other Side’ debuted at #107 on the US Billboard 200 list in 2017, followed by numerous other Nigerian singers like Davido, Fireboy DML, Burna Boy, Okay, and Asake.
