Novak Djokovic appears to have put a stop to the debate over who is the greatest tennis player in the world, amongst himself, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.
The World No. 1 tennis player became the first man in tennis history to win 23 Grand Slams. The Serb accomplished this feat on Sunday, June 11th, 2023, when he defeated Norway’s Casper Ruud in straight sets 7-6(1), 6-3, 7-5 to win his third French Open title.
Djokovic has now eclipsed Rafael Nadal’s (22) Grand Slam championships, which include ten Australian Opens, seven Wimbledon trophies, three Roland Garros titles, and three US Open crowns.
Just a few minutes after the game, Nadal responded to Djokovic’s record-breaking moment on his official Twitter account.
Many congrats on this amazing achievement @DjokerNole. 23 is a number that just a few years back was impossible to think about, and you made it! Enjoy it with your family and team.
The 36-year-old will hope he can take his Grand Slam title to 25 by the end of the year. He must win the Wimbledon and the US Open to achieve this feat.
