Chelsea Football Club has unveiled the jersey number of its latest addition, Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.
The Blues revealed the Ecuadorian international as their newest player in a statement on Monday, August 14, 2023. The midfielder was assigned the number 25, originally worn by Gianfranco Zola, a Blues legend.
Moises Caicedo stated that he had to ask permission from Zola before assuming the jersey number since he understood how significant it was to the team.
“I am so proud to wear this number, I spoke to Gianfranco Zola and he gave me his blessings. I know how much this number means, I chose it because it is a very special number to me and my family. I want to create a lot of memories with this number at my back.”
The 21-year-old is a significant addition to the Chelsea squad, allowing Enzo Fernandez to play in a more advanced position. During the 2022/23 season, he made 43 appearances for the Seagulls, who finished sixth in their best-ever Premier League finish.
