The English Premier League’s Manchester Derby has garnered the most attention since Manchester City started to rule the competition.
The match between the two teams was played for the 187th time on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the Etihad Stadium. In recent years, Manchester City has dominated the series, and this match was no different.

(1) Manchester City became the third team to have two hat trick scorers in a Premier League game thanks to Erling Haaland and Phil Foden’s hat trick in the match. The other two matches were between Southampton and Arsenal in May 2003 (Jermaine Pennant, Robert Pires) and Leicester vs. Southampton in October 2019 (Ayoze Pérez, Jamie Vardy).
(2) Erling Haaland is the third player overall and the first Manchester City player to score a hat-trick against Manchester United since Francis Lee did it in December 1970. (also Horace Barnes in Oct 1921).
(3) Man United have given up four or more goals in the first half in four Premier League games since the season began (against Spurs in October 2020, Liverpool in October 2021, Brentford in August 2022, and Man City today); this is twice as frequently than any other team during this time.
(4) Phil Foden has now scored 50 goals overall for Manchester City. He has surpassed Lionel Messi to become the Pep Guardiola era’s youngest player to score 50 goals at the age of 22 years and 127 days (22 years and 164 days).
(5) At the age of 22 years and 73 days, Erling Haaland surpassed Mario Balotelli, who scored in the October 2011 Manchester derby at the age of 21 years and 72 days, as the second-youngest player to do so for Man City in the Premier League.
(6) Erling Haaland became the first player in Premier League history to score a hat-trick in three straight home matches.
(7) Manchester City 6-2 (seven). With today’s 187th competitive encounter between the two teams, Manchester United is now the highest-scoring Manchester derby in history, regardless of the tournament.
(8) Erling Haaland scored three goals and provided two assists in today’s game between Manchester City and Manchester United, giving him the record for most goals in a single Premier League Manchester Derby.
