Marwako Restaurant in Accra is in the news again for an alleged mass food poisoning. Several reports have popped up on social media, especially on Twitter about this unfortunate event.
It began with a tweet from one of the co-founders of Afrochella with the username ‘@deezydothis,’ which read;
Marwako @Marwakofastfood gave me and many others in this hospital the worst food poisoning ever.
In a sub-tweet to the above, he added;
I’ll do everything in my power to make sure they do not get away with this.
Few minutes after posting the tweet on his timeline, other complaints swamped the comment section narrating their terrible experience.
From the replies and quotes, it appears most of the customers suffered the food poisoning on Saturday, and have many hospitalized till now.
I’ll do everything in my power to make sure they do not get away with this.

What caused the Marwako Food Poisoning
The actual cause of the poisoning is yet to be identified by the authorities of the restaurant and the Food and Drugs Authority. Some of the victims have ascribed the coleslaw served along with the Fried Rice/Jollof Rice with chicken as the cause.
Yo! FR? Thought we were the only ones, We Ate their food on Saturday, May 7, We are still on medication for food poisoning. My sister and I. I think it was from their coleslaw. 🤦🏾♂️ @Marwakofastfood pic.twitter.com/8GjKtdhNZc

Marwako’s Track-Record Of Bad Reputation
In 2017, a 25-year-old female employee of the Marwako Restaurant in Accra was allegedly assaulted by a Lebanese supervisor for fidgeting with a blender and working slowly.
Jihad Thaabn, 26, a brother-in-law of the Marwako Restaurant’s owner, was accused of aggressively grabbing the victim’s neck and drenching her face in blended pepper that he had spilled onto a table.
Evelyn Boakye, who had her face massaged in the blended pepper for more than 10 minutes while Thaabn gripped her neck and hurled nasty comments at her, had to scream for aid and beg Thaabn to let her go.
Here are some shared experiences from the victims on Twitter
Imagine that !!! My 5yr old son just threw up all the fluids inside him for the 20th time today!!! Can’t sleep ! Can’t eat . Body pains. Headaches. from Sunday dawn !! And I am not even strong enough myself to be strong for him !!! 😭😭 https://t.co/UZneV6dfmY

I got served at mawako East legon (A&C) on Saturday evening, I found my self at the hospital at 3pm. All because of mawako fried rice n water Mellon juice. The pains alone I pray no one goes through this. Still on medication. I will surely come out of this.
