David De Gea took home the ‘Player Of The Year’ award based on his team-mates election.
Ronaldo was snubbed after having an outstanding individual season, scoring 24 goals across all competitions.
Despite scoring 24 goals, Ronaldo was not named player of the season by his peers.
De Gea, a Spanish goalkeeper, received the award from his teammates.
De Gea, the 31-year-old goalkeeper, won the award despite playing every minute of United’s league campaign.
During a dismal overall season for the Red Devils, the Spaniard was selected man of the match seven times.
Ronaldo has saved his United teammates’ on multiple occasions, most notably with a spectacular hat-trick against relegated Norwich to prevent an embarrassing defeat.
In seven Champions League games, he scored six crucial goals, but it wasn’t enough to get past Atletico Madrid in the last-16.
Only Mo Salah and Son Heung-min, both Golden Boot winners, have scored more Premier League goals than the Portuguese skipper.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Ron, who had to deal with a tumultuous relationship with Ralf Rangnick during the season.
Former Boss Rangnick revealed that Ronaldo’s outbursts perplexed him.
Following a match against Burnley, the hot shooter sped through the tunnel, ignoring opposition players and travelling Man Utd fans.
“Cristiano, as we all know, is 37,” Rangnick stated after the game. He knows what he should or should not do.
“We’re concentrating on the things we can change and improve.”
“How come he left the field just after the final whistle?” Perhaps he was also frustrated that the game ended in a stalemate and that he failed to score.
“Once again, this is not the type of energy we should be squandering. We concentrate all of our efforts on the areas in which we have control.”
Ronaldo believes that “things must change” at Old Trafford under new manager Erik ten Hag, but that the team is still capable of winning titles.
The star striker appeared to indicate his determination to stay at Old Trafford when he stated that he is still happy to be there.
“I was and still am really thrilled to be here,” he said of last season’s emotional return.
