On Kwaku DMC’s Road to the Jungle, the Ghanaian rapper recounts his journey above drill instrumentation, expressing a wide range of emotions and experiences.
The Kumasi-based singer discusses the struggles of growth and trappings of success over immersive soundscapes sculpted by producers Moor Sound, TrapXcan, Joeyonmars, MJaydidthis, Anti Social, Ghanaian Stallion, Kuvie, and DJ FortuneDJ.
The album’s opening title track, with its sinister synths and captivating bassline, sets the tone for an immersive experience, with DMC channeling his “King Kong Nyame” nickname on gritty tracks like “No Handshake” and “Agree,” the latter co-written with labelmates Reggie and O’Kenneth.
While the UK’s Suspect OTB appears on the cross-continental collaboration “Akatafo Party,” Kwaku demonstrates his range with emotive narration on “Faith,” acoustic infusions on “Ohemaa,” and love lyrics on “Ode Yewu.”
