FIFA World Ranking Latest Update [2022]

Despite their terrible World Cup performance, Brazil is still placed as the first team in the world in FIFA’s latest Men’s Ranking.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup champions, Argentina came in second, followed by France, the runners-up.

Ghana Black Stars rose three places in the world rankings from 61st to 58th following their victories against Switzerland and South Korea.

After a remarkable run in Qatar, Morocco, was ranked 11th in the world, surpassing Senegal to take the top spot in Africa. They defeated Belgium, Canada, Spain, and Portugal in their route to becoming the first African team to reach the World Cup semifinals.

How to Calculate FIFA World Ranking

In 2018 FIFA introduced a new model to calculate the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, after approval by the FIFA Council.

The new model developed by FIFA was named “SUM” as it relies on adding/subtracting points won or lost for a game to/from the previous point totals rather than averaging game points over a given time period as in the previous version of the World Ranking.

The points which are added or subtracted are partially determined by the relative strength of the two opponents, including the logical expectation that teams higher in the ranking should fare better against teams lower in the ranking.
