Davido Talks Drake’s Influence on Afrobeats In Latest Interview With Bootleg Kev Podcast, UncensoredGH.com

Afrobeats musician Davido feels that Afrobeats existed prior to Drake’s involvement.

The Afrobeat singer has spoken out about the influence of Canadian rapper Drake on the global success of Afrobeats.

There is no doubt that the genre is currently the most popular and sought-after in the globe, with poster boys such as Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and others selling out arenas all over the world.

In a new interview on the Bootleg Kev Podcast, Davido was asked what he thinks of Drake’s influence on the success of Afrobeats, and he made it plain that Afrobeats was massive before Drake jumped on it.

Drake was one of the first major worldwide singers to embrace Afrobeats, appearing on Wizkid’s ‘Ojuelegba remix’ with Skepta and injecting Afrobeats elements into his mega hit ‘One Dance,’ which also featured Wizkid and has now gone 6x platinum in the UK.

Drake, according to the presenter, has the ability to blow up any genre, and his engagement with Afrobeats has taken it to other regions of the world. Davido agreed with the assessment, although he believes Afrobeats is already big. He stated:

Afrobeats was definitely huge before Drake. Drake is Drake so I would be lying if I say he didn’t put some spotlight on it.
