With their World Cup 2022 win over Brazil, Cameroon changed the course of African football history.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon departed the competition with a boom despite missing the chance to advance to the round of 16 in the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. The team became the first and only African nation to defeat Brazil at the world cup.
By scoring the game’s only goal in the dying seconds, Cameroon’s captain, Vincent Aboubakar, helped his team defy all odds and win all three points in a 1-0 victory over Brazil. A draw in the match between Switzerland and Serbia would have guaranteed them a position in the round of 16, but thanks to goals from Embolo, Shaqiri, and Frueler, Switzerland earned all three points and qualified for the next round.
Aboubakar also made history by becoming the third player from Africa to ever score against Brazil in a competitive match.
