Karim Benzema, one of Real Madrid’s top players, has announced his departure as a free agent after fourteen years with the club.
On Sunday, June 4th, 2023, Benzema’s departure was confirmed on Real Madrid’s official website. When his current contract ends at the end of the season, the Frenchman will be a free agent.
The 35-year-old has been linked with a move to a Saui Atabia premier league club, where he may join former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. The forward is Real Madrid’s sixth most-played player (647) with 647 appearances. With 353 goals, he is Real Madrid’s second all-time leading scorer.
Benzema is Real Madrid’s second-highest scoring player in both the league and the European Cup. He is also the fourth-highest goalscorer in Champions League history and the fourth-highest goalscorer in League history.
Benzema joined Real Madrid in 2009 and has been a vital part of the club’s recent success, winning 25 titles in fourteen seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu, including five European Cups, five Club World Cups, four European Super Cups, four Leagues, three Copas del Rey, and four Spanish Super Cups.
