This year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony was held in Paris on Monday, October 17, 2022, and Karim Benzema has been voted the winner by France Football.
The Real Madrid attacker received the honor as a result of his outstanding play for Real Madrid during the recently finished 2021–2022 football season. The Frenchman was a vital player for the Galaticos when they defeated Liverpool to win the La Liga and UEFA Champions League in the Stade de France. He also helped France win the UEFA Nations League.
Benzema was the clear favorite for the prize because of his success in scoring goals while playing for Real Madrid. In 45 appearances with Madrid, he scored 48 goals and added 12 assists. Due to his performance in the contest, the 34-year-old had previously earned UEFA Player of the Year.
The winner of the award event in 2021, Lionel Messi, was notably absent from the list of nominees for this year’s honor. The Argentine’s performance for PSG in the league during the 2021–2022 season was reportedly subpar.
